The Nathaniel Irwin House, built circa 1785, is on Easton
Road (U.S. 611) in Warrington Township, Pennsylvania, just outside the Bucks
County seat of Doylestown.
One of Bucks County's architectural masterpieces, the
Nathaniel Irwin House is home to the law firm of Randolph Scott Associates.
This stone manor house owes its present form to the Reverend
Nathaniel Irwin, who owned the property from 1785 to 1812, though an earlier
mansion stood on the site.
Irwin was a graduate of Princeton, and served as minister
of the Neshaminy Presbyterian Church. He was a politician as well, and was
influential in moving the Bucks County seat from Newtown to Doylestown in 1813.
His house is typical of the kind of home that was owned by an influential and
prominent local citizen of the early American republic.
The Nathaniel Irwin House is a fine example of the Federal
style of architecture. This style was prevalent in Philadelphia and Bucks
County in the 18th century. It is a registered historic landmark.
Attorney Randolph A. Scott acquired the property in 1980.
After undergoing extensive renovation, it became the headquarters for Mr.
Scott's law practice.
